LOST – S1E1

So I was bored, planning on cleaning (didn’t happen) and was trying to decide on something for background noise that wasn’t YouTube. It was going to be Mad Men again (will probably rewatch that again soon sometime) but then I saw LOST, a show that I have not watched since I was a young teen.

I vaguely remember there being some big ol’ mystery, and the crush I had on Sayid (played by Naveen Andrews). AND MR JOHNNY GAT HIMSELF, DANIEL DAE KIM.

He’s so pretty!

The episode begins with Jack (Matthew Fox) waking up with a start in some bamboo, and the scene moves on into pure chaos. For me, it’s mostly a moment of me going “Oh I know that person! I remember them! Oooo omg Dominic wait weren’t you filming Lord of the Rings!?” Meanwhile, Jack is running around doing protagonist doctor things. It’s all very intense.

Soon enough, our second protagonist shows up, in the form of Kate (Evangeline Lilly) to help Jack out with his own wounds, and to so obviously set up some kind of romantic relationship.

So far, the episode is pretty standard, but interesting enough. The music and sound is on point, and the small glimpses into each of the character’s personalities and lives is co- oh. What’s that?

Yeah don’t worry girl I didn’t miss that greenscreen of deforestation.

I completely forgot any of this happened, and I distinctly remember watching this episode on TV way back in 2004. At first I think oh yes, dinosaurs. But then there’s the whistling. It doesn’t sound natural. A train perhaps? Some giant mechanical machine left on the island?

The next day, Jack is like “lol well that was weird” and decides to take Kate and Charlie (Dominic Monaghan) to find the cockpit. Kate scavenges more appropriate shoes off of a corpse, which is quite grim, but makes a lot of sense. There’s no point in wasting anything when you have no idea where or if rescue is coming. I pondered if I would take the socks in that situation, and decided I’d probably have to wash them first…

We find out Charlie is in a band, and he’s a silly goofy guy. Kate is amused, Jack is all business.

Why the fuck do I remember this.

Then there’s a dog in the bushes!? Anyway. It starts raining heavily.

This bitch has never been anywhere tropical.

They do inevitably discover the front of the plane, deep within the forest, and it’s an adventure and a half climbing into the near vertical wreckage. Jack and Kate make it into the cockpit to begin their search for the radio thing and jumpscare! The pilot is alive! And tells the two that they lost comms far before they even crashed, and that nobody will know where they are.

Meanwhile, Charlie is taking a shit in the plane bathroom! What a silly goofy guy.

Well good thing he did, because something growly is now stalking around the outside of the plane. Which is terrible news for our unnamed pilot, because he gets yoinked. Bye guy! The plane falls horizontal, and the gang make a run for it, accidentally running off into different directions.

I did initially think that the entity from the previous night and the creature that just attacked them in the forest were different, but there’s that damn whistling again. Kate ends up in amongst some vines, terrified. I found her attempt to calm herself down by counting very interesting. Is this something she employs often in her life?

Eventually, Charlie stumbles in her, with them landing in the mud. She goads him into going back the the wreckage with her to find Jack. Charlie seems mildly upset that she didn’t shout for him.

Jack eventually pops up, and Charlie points out the pilot mangled up in the tree. How lovely!

Yippee, let’s all reunite under the corpse tree! Cropped for obvious reasons.

And that’s the end of the episode! What was that? Where are they? Are Kate and Jack trauma bonding? Will Charlie ever stop being silly? Will somebody find them!?

Thanks for reading! I am unsure if I will continue to watch LOST, but I wanted to practice writing a blog post and I thought why not procrastinate cleaning even further by doing it RIGHT NOW.

What’s next? Who knows! Maybe a gaming post. I’m playing Fallout 4 and The Sims 2 a lot right now, so keep an eye out for something soon. See you later!
